The Vision
Distrito AXIS is a mixed-use catalyst located in the northern expansion of Barcelona’s 22@ district. It reimagines the Mediterranean business park not as a glass tower, but as a grounded, tactile campus that mediates between the industrial past and the digital future.
Design Strategy
The architecture is defined by “Mediterranean Brutalism. We utilized raw, white-washed concrete to reflect the intense coastal sunlight, contrasted by black steel—a nod to the area’s metallurgical heritage. The complex creates a dialogue between two monolithic volumes disrupted by the “Axis”—a suspended steel bridge that physically and symbolically connects the corporate workspaces with the cultural auditorium.
Spatial Dynamics
Unlike traditional office blocks, the design prioritizes permeability. Expansive glazing breaks the concrete mass, flooding the deep floor plates with natural light. At ground level, a series of tiered concrete steps and minimal hardscaping create a sunken plaza, blurring the boundary between the private building and the public urban environment. This is architecture designed to be inhabited, not just observed.
