THE MARKET AS CLIMATE INFRASTRUCTURE
Market Regeneration reimagines the urban market as a shaded civic room: a place for trade, meeting, movement and daily public life. The proposal treats the market not as an isolated commercial object, but as a piece of climate-responsive urban infrastructure embedded in the public realm.
The central architectural gesture is a lightweight canopy system that gives the project its identity. Its rhythm organizes circulation, produces shade and creates a recognizable urban presence without enclosing the space. The canopy works as both architecture and environmental device, softening heat, glare and exposure while giving the market a stronger relationship to the surrounding streets.
Below the canopy, planting, seating, paving and lighting define a sequence of comfortable microclimates. The ground plane becomes a continuous public surface, connecting market entrances, pedestrian routes and areas of pause. Rather than separating commerce from civic life, the project allows the market to extend outward into the square and become part of the everyday city.
The design is conceived for different speeds and uses: quick shopping, informal encounters, evening activity and longer stays. Circulation is clarified, edges are activated and the atmosphere of the market becomes more generous and legible. Shade, vegetation and light are not decorative additions; they are the spatial tools that make the project work.
Market Regeneration combines architecture, landscape and public-space strategy to create a more durable, comfortable and memorable environment for everyday exchange.
It is a proposal for commercial life in a changing climate: open, shaded, civic and resilient.
