Situated within the protected pine forests of Boadilla del Monte—Madrid’s most exclusive green enclave—this residence reimagines the traditional family home as a seamless integration of modernist rigor and natural serenity. Unlike a temporary vacation retreat, this project was designed to accommodate the dynamic needs of daily family life while maintaining a profound connection to the surrounding landscape.
The architectural massing is defined by two distinct, intersecting volumes that respond to the site’s topography and vegetation. The upper level—a substantial exposed concrete prism—cantilevers over the ground floor, creating deep shadows that protect the interiors from the intense Madrilenian sun while forming sheltered porches for year-round outdoor use. The lower volume is wrapped in warm, vertical timber cladding, establishing a tactile rhythm that echoes the dense verticality of the native pine trees, grounding the home visually within the plot.
Inside, the spatial organization prioritizes family connectivity and material warmth. The timber ceiling extends continuously from the open-plan living areas to the exterior overhangs, dissolving the boundary between the domestic interior and the forest. The ground floor centers on a monumental kitchen with stone monolith islands, serving as the functional heart of the home for daily meals and social gatherings. The upper level creates a private sanctuary for the family, housing bedrooms and a master suite where frameless glazing turns the bathroom into an immersive viewing platform of the canopy.
The landscape design is an extension of the living space, featuring a linear saltwater pool and an expansive timber deck that floats above the natural terrain. “Casa Boadilla” demonstrates that a permanent residence can achieve a resort-like atmosphere, offering a quiet, sophisticated refuge just minutes from the vibrancy of the capital.
