USE: New museum, restoration of neoclassical buildings, excavation of ancient ruins
LOCATION: Athens, Greece
STATUS: Unbuilt
COLLABORATORS: G. Papathomas

This project represents a striking urban intervention in the heart of Athens, seamlessly merging historical preservation, contemporary architecture, and sustainable design. The site is organized around three exhibition towers, which rise as distinct vertical volumes, creating spaces for thematic displays. Elevated metallic pathways float above archaeological findings, providing access and uninterrupted views of the excavations while preserving their integrity.

The design highlights the site’s rich archaeological heritage by fully exposing and integrating ancient remains into the urban fabric. Minimal interventions focus on restoring the surrounding neoclassical buildings, repurposing them for administration, a library, maintenance, and exhibition storage. A unifying concrete roof adheres to the city’s height regulations, cohesively tying the site together while providing shelter for the exhibition areas below.

A carefully selected material palette of concrete, metal, and brick creates a harmonious dialogue between the modern architectural elements and the historical context. This project balances Athens’ layered history with a vision for its urban and cultural future.
