K38 Athens: The Sanctuary of Two Worlds
Located in the heart of Athens, K38 is a dialogue between two distinct design philosophies: the rigorous precision of Scandinavian functionalism and the tactile warmth of the Mediterranean vernacular.
The Challenge: To transform a fragmented, irregular pentagonal layout into a coherent residence that breathes.
The Solution: We stripped the structure back to its essence, revealing the “bones” of the building while introducing a new, fluid circulation. By separating the layout into two adaptable units, we maximized the utility of the irregular geometry. The material palette—deep walnut joinery contrasting with cool Greek limestone—anchors the space, providing a heavy, calming counterpoint to the intense Athenian sun.
The Experience: This is not just a renovation; it is a retreat. Shadows are treated as a material, curated to cool the living spaces during the day, while the terrace acts as an extension of the living room—a seamless transition from the protected interior to the chaotic energy of the city.
